Indian mounds get funding

The Effigy Mounds will get $750,000 in funding to purchase adjacent land to expand the national monument.

The monument was dedicated on this day in 1949. The mounds were built between 500 AD and 1300 AD and are shaped like mammals, birds, and other configurations.
