Navajo Nation welcomes Clinton

APRIL 18, 2000

Signs throughout Shiprock, NM, greeted President Clinton in the traditional Dine way, Yah ah teh, as he brought his Digital Divide tour to the Navajo Nation yesterday. An estimated 20,000 Navajos from all regions of the reservation came to hear Clinton speak. He introduced himself in Dine, citing his maternal and paternal clans.

In his speech, Clinton also praised the Navajo Code Talkers who created the only unbreakable code of World War II.

Factual note: Clinton visited the Pine Ridge Reservation last year, not the "South Bend Indian Reservation in South Dakota" as the article suggests.
