Maine tribal casino pushed

Following a nationwide trend, two Maine tribes are pushing a casino as a way of meeting the state's budget woes.

The Penobscot Nation and the Passamaquoddy Tribe want to build a casino resort in Kittery, a major shopping outlet. The tribes say the facility would generate $50 million a year for themselves but also $75 million for the state in taxes and $20 million to state and local governments.

Gov. Angus King opposes gaming. He is in his last term.
