Wyandotte Nation sues over gaming
SEPTEMBER 22, 2000 The Wyandotte Nation of Oklahoma has filed suit against the federal government, hoping to rid themselves of having to negotiate a gaming compact with the state of Kansas. The lawsuit alleges that the Senator Sam Brownback (R-Kan), other members of the Kansas Congressional delegation, and Governor Bill Graves have been blocking illegaly legislation that would allow the tribe to build a casino in the state. Although the tribe has been renovating a site in Kansas City in preparation for a casino, they say they'd rather open one elsewhere. But they have been hampered in their efforts by the state and four Kansas gaming tribes who oppose the Wyandotte's casino. Get the Story:
