Mohegan Tribe to defend fisheries plan
JUNE 25, 2001 The US Army Corps of Engineers is holding a public hearing today on a fisheries proposal of the Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut, one which has raised considerable opposition. The tribe needs a permit from the Army Corps to use federal waters. Due to local objections, the tribe has scaled back plans because fishermen and boaters say the project will prevent them from enjoying the waters. The tribe has invested $2.7 million in the project so far, hoping to harvest clams, oyster, and other aquaculture. Get the Story:
