Tribe's recognition delayed
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 20, 2002 A federal judge has ordered the Bureau of Indian Affairs to issue a proposed finding on the federal recognition of the Schaghticoke Tribal Nation of Connecticut by December of this year. Originally, the deadline was September but has been pushed back to accommodate a request by a local school and a rival tribal faction. The tribe has been seeking recognition for two decades.
