Chiapas Army base torn down
MARCH 23, 2001 A fifth Army base in the southern Mexican state of Chiapas is being torn down to comply with the wishes of the leaders of an Indian rights movement. The Army has been tearing down the base in Guadalupe Tepeyac since last Wednesday. They will also tear one down near San Cristobal, resulting in all seven military bases in Chiapas shut down. Two will be turned into Indian centers, says President Vicente Fox. Get the Story:
