In The Hoop
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 18, 2002

Welcome to In The Hoop, Indianz.Com's occasional column about assorted Indian issues.

In The Hoop: The Scorecard
Is it Friday already? That means it's time for the weekly list of the movers and shakers in Indian Country and beyond.

The Winners
J.C. Begay - Thank god the cattle rustling charges were dropped. We were about to start a "Free J.C. Begay" campaign!

Chinook Nation - We hope the Lewis and Clark monument in your tribal area gives the finger to Bush Administration.

Ray Tricomo - Hey, you're more Indian than some of the other Indian candidates out there. We attribute this to the fact that you are the blind but can truly see.

Fran Ulmer - "Senator, I'd just like to bring you up to date a little bit." Fab-u-lous!

The Losers
Senator Jim Inhofe - Oh sure, you have time to hold a trust reform bill at the last minute but you don't have time to resolve problems you brought to the table. Give us a break.

Cherokee Nation - Why you were negotiating with these yahoos was beyond us. But it sort of reminds of your car tag snag.

Santa Ana Pueblo - So much for that $60 million expansion. We are happy the employees will get a decent severance package though.

Bada bing bada boom Opponents - Somehow, we doubt you'd get so worked up about stereotypes of Native Americans.

In The Middle
Indian Legislation - Whether bad or not-so-bad, Congress has better things to worry about. Like getting re-elected and who will control the House and Senate.

IIM Account Holders - Watch out, the government is always looking for ways to get rid of you. But you already knew that.

White House - We are glad you are challenging Cheney document case because the longer the delay, the greater the chance you will be held in contempt.

Haskell - Maybe you can lobby tribal governments to kick in some of that casino cash!
