Kateri conference begins
AUGUST 2, 2000 The Kateri Conference, a five-day gathering honoring Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha, begins today at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. Tekakwitha is a Mohawk woman who lived in the late 17th century in New York. Considered by many to be worthy of sainthood, she would become the first Native American saint declared by the Catholic Church. Tekakwitha is credited with many miracles, including the recent recovery of a Cochiti Pueblo woman, who awoke from a 16-year coma in 1999. Get the Story:
