Lawsuits threaten church
JUNE 2, 2000 Lawsuits filed by aboriginals against the Anglican Church are pushing the church towards bankruptcy, according to church officials. Approximately 7,000 claims have been filed against the federal goverment over residential schools run by various churches. The lawsuits stem from physical, sexual, and mental abuse at the schools which tried to assimilate Native children into white culture. Get the Story:
