Candidate hit for 'scalp' remark

NOVEMBER 21, 2000

Another Candian Alliance Party candidate is facing criticism for remarks some attribute to racism.

Brian Fitzpatrick, a candidate for the Prince Albert rider in Saskatchewan made a joke about getting scalped, saying he was referring to his baldness. But some Indian voters didn't appreciate the remark, which was made in a former residential school.

Betty Granger dropped out her race on Sunday for remarks she made about Asian students in the university system. Fitzpatrick has apologized for his remark and says he has no intention of dropping out.
