Nevada Gov. Kenny Guinn (R) on Monday announced his veto of President Bush's decision to store up to 77,000 tons of nuclear waste at the Yucca Mountain site outside of Las Vegas.

The move sets up a conflict to be resolved by Congress. Under federal law, both chambers must act within this session to affirm or deny Guinn's veto.

Yucca Mountain is located on traditional Shoshone land and would be the home to highly radioactive waste currently stored at nuclear facilities throughout the country. Tribes in the area, some of which are within 100 miles of the site, oppose the project.
