Tribe seeks Yucca Mountain input
JUNE 26, 2001 The Duckwater Shoshone Tribe today submitted a letter to Secretary of Interior Gale Norton asking to be designated as an affected tribe for the Yucca Mountain site in Nevada. The site is under consideration as the nation's nuclear waste repository. Secretary of Energy Spencer Abraham is expected to make a recommendation to President Bush on the site this year. A spokesperson for the Department of Interior told Indianz.Com that affected tribes come under the jurisdiction of the Energy Department. The Timbisha-Shoshone Tribe has asked Norton to designate them affected as well. Get the Story:
