Bingaman warming up to Yucca Mountain
JUNE 21, 2001 Senator Jeff Bingaman (D-N.M.), chairman of the Energy and Natural Resources Committee, on Wednesday said he will support the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste site if the Department of Energy recommends it. When the Democrats took control of the Senate, various leaders declared the Nevada proposal a dead deal. But Bingaman said it can't be stopped and is awaiting the completion of DOE studies. Tribes in the area oppose the site. Get the Story:
