Navajo Nation opposes mascot
WEDNESDAY, MAY 8, 2002 Navajo Nation President Kelsey Begaye is calling on a school in Utah to get rid of its mascot, saying the name "Red Devils" is offensive to Native Americans. Begaye wrote a letter to the Nebo School Board to oppose the Springville Red Devil. Students and staff at the high school voted yesterday in a non-binding referendum. The board is deciding tonight whether or not to keep the Devil. Get the Story:
