Means pushes for end to mascots
TUESDAY, JANUARY 29, 2002 Activist, author, activist and alleged New Mexico gubernatorial candidate Russell Means called on the elimination of Indian mascots at a gathering in South Dakota on Monday. Means says removing mascots is a way to "decolonize" Indians from their "oppressors." His comments came at a forum organized by a local activist whose battle against mascots and other Indian-themed symbols has convinced some schools to drop them. Get the Story:
