LaDuke to speak at mascot conference
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, 2001
Activist and former Green Party vice-presidential candidate Winona LaDuke will appear next month at a conference at the University of North Dakota on the use of Indians as mascots and logos.
The conference, called "The Northern Plains Conference on American Indian Team Names & Logos," will be accompanied by a rally against UND's "Fighting Sioux" nickname. The events will take place during the weekend before Columbus Day, October 3-5.
A flier criticizing UND President Charles Kupchella on the nickname has been circulated at the school.
