Head of UND Indian Studies quits
MAY 30, 2001 The head of the Indian Studies department at the University of North Dakota on Tuesday said she quit her job last week because the school's new "Fighting Sioux" logo was being painted on a basketball court. Mary Jane Schneider told the Grand Forks Herald she was "disgusted" when she found out about the logo. She said she opposes the continued use of the "Sioux" nickname. The logo was designed by Bennett Brien, a Turtle Mountain Ojibwe artist from North Dakota. Get the Story:
