Parties in N.M. gaming case eager for a ruling

The state of New Mexico and the Mescalero Apache Nation are urging a federal judge to make a ruling on a three-year-old gaming compact case.

The state sued 12 tribes for not sharing casino revenues. The suit was settled when all but two tribes -- the Mescalero Tribe and Pojoaque Pueblo -- signed new compacts with revised sharing terms.

A motion, filed by the Mescalero Tribe, to move the case into arbitration has been pending since October 2000. The state and tribe say a decision should be made as soon as possible.
