Bush rejects Democrats on Supreme Court picks

FRIDAY, JUNE 20, 2003

President Bush this week rejected an offer to work with Democrats and Republicans on a potential Supreme Court nomination.

Although there is no guarantee any justice will retire soon, Democrats wrote to Bush and said a bipartisan selection process will prevent a showdown over a nominee's confirmation. The White House responded that Bush will make his choice, and the Senate will be able to vote on it.
