State, feds accept water sharing agreement

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 11, 2003

A water sharing agreement involving the Navajo Nation and the Jicarilla Apache Nation in New Mexico has been accepted by the state and federal government.

The San Juan Basin Water Recommended Water Use Agreement determines how the tribes, local governments and other users will share water from the river in time of a shortage. The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation has estimated a shortage of about 3 percent this year.
