Final ruling on Goshute nuclear could come soon

THURSDAY, MAY 29, 2003

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is urging its adjudicatory board to resolve final licensing issues for a proposed nuclear waste dump on the Skull Valley Goshute Reservation in Utah.

The NRC, in a ruling issued yesterday, said there is no need to reconsider a decision denying the license based on threats from a fighter jet crash. Private Fuel Storage (PFS), a consortium of eight private utilities, is being given a chance to show that the waste site can withstand a crash.
