Okla. tribal compacts include gaming rights

FRIDAY, MAY 16, 2003

Oklahoma tribes are negotiating a "model gaming compact" with the state, according to news reports.

State Finance Director Scott Meacham told The Daily Oklahoman that the agreement will require tribes to share gaming revenues with the state. He expects to receive $20 million to $30 million a year.

The compact is part of a bill being negotiated by tribes, the state and the racetrack industry. It would authorize race tracks to offer the same type of electronic gaming machines that tribes offer.

The Native American Times reported that the agreement will move out of a conference committee today.
