Editorial: 'Hypocrisy' of some tribal leaders

Tribes need to abide by the rule of law if they want economic development on the reservation, The Madison Daily Leader says in an editorial.

The paper refers to a recent dispute on the Rosebud Sioux Reservation in South Dakota where the tribal council opposed a massive hog farm. "If a business enters into an agreement with a tribe and newly elected leadership invalidates it, is it no wonder that businesses don't want to do business on reservations?" the paper asks.

"This is just a sample of the hypocrisy of some tribal leaders. They say they want economic development, new capital and jobs to come to the reservation, but deals can evidently be ignored whenever convenient."
