Wis. tribe criticizes GOP cartoon as racist

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 16, 2003

The Forest County Potawatomi Tribe's top law enforcer criticized the Wisconsin Republican Party for a cartoon that lampooned Indian culture.

The cartoon, which was posted on the state party's web site (http://www.wisgop.org), features a tomahawk and the saying "As taxpayers, we got scalped." It criticizes Gov. Jim Doyle (D) for signing an open-ended gaming compact with the Potawatomi Tribe.
