Wis. governor vetoes gaming compact bill

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 19, 2003

Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle (D) vetoed a second bill on Tuesday that seeks to limit his ability to negotiate new tribal casino compacts.

Republican lawmakers pushed the bill after Doyle made two open-ended deals. The bill would have required legislative approval of any compact that runs more than 15 years of involves off-reservation gambling.

Doyle's veto is the second on a compact bill. Lawmakers were unable to override his veto on an earlier bill.
