Oneida Nation reaches new deal with state

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 20, 2003

The Oneida Nation has agreed to a new gaming compact with the state of Wisconsin.

The tribe will pay about $58 million over four years, according to press accounts. This is an four-fold increase of the current sharing rate.

In exchange, the tribe will be able to operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and can offer craps and roulette at its casinos. The deal is the first of several new deals the state will be negotiating in hopes of generating $237 million from Indian gaming.
