Innu community starts move to new home

MONDAY, DECEMBER 16, 2002

Some members of the Innu First Nation of Labrador, have made the move to their new home at Natuashish.

About 20 families are occupying new homes that the Canadian government built. The houses have heating and running water, basic amenities that were lacking in the old community at Davis Inlet.

It is hoped that the $152 million effort will help the community shed its drug abuse and other problems.

All 600 band members are expected to be relocated by spring 2003.
