End of road for Neal McCaleb

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 22, 2002

Neal McCaleb will still be a target of the Cobell Indian trust fund lawsuit even after he resigns as assistant secretary, an attorney representing 500,000 beneficiaries said.

"The fact he's leaving does not mean he's not going to continue to be part of this litigation," attorney Dennis Gingold told The Washington Post. "I assure you he will be."

McCaleb was held in contempt of court, in his official capacity, for misleading a federal judge about efforts to fix the broken Indian trust. The Bush administration is appealing.
