Mont. drops tax case against tribe

The state of Montana has dropped its attempt to tax a tribally-owned business.

The state tried to force the Flathead Nation to collect and remit a bed tax at a tribal resort. But a state judge ruled against the Montana Revenue Department.

A lawyer for the department said a related case involving an Indian-owned business played a factor in dropping the case. But attorney David Ohler has asked the Supreme Court to reverse the Flat Center Farms ruling.
