BLM auctions seized Shoshone cattle

MONDAY, OCTOBER 7, 2002

The Bureau of Land Management on Friday auctioned 232 head of cattle seized from two Western Shoshone sisters who claim aboriginal title to land in Nevada.

Mary and Carrie Dann were joined in a protest of the auction, which was held in Reno. The BLM accepted three bids for a total of $59,262.

The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) asked the BLM to delay the auction. The BLM claimed the international body has no jurisdiction over the matter.
