Three Yellowstone bison slaughtered

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 3, 2002

Livestock officials in Montana sent three bison to the slaughterhouse because they wandered out of Yellowstone National Park.

Under a plan finalized by the Clinton administration, the state can kill bison if they leave the park boundaries and test positive for a deadly cattle disease. The latter condition can be lifted under certain times of the year.
