Shoshone activists to stage protests
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 2002 A group of Western Shoshone tribal members in Nevada plan to protest recent federal seizures of cattle. The activists will protest at Bureau of Land Management offices on Monday and on Friday. The BLM seized 227 cattle belonging to sisters Mary and Carrie Dann. The Danns, and other tribal members, believe their land rights have not been extinguished. The Bush administration says a $138 million trust fund is payment for 23 million acres of lost land. Also, a 185-mile relay walk to commemorate the 1863 Treaty of Ruby Valley will end tomorrow. Get the Story:
