Pequot Tribe target of GAO review
FRIDAY, AUGUST 30, 2002
Seven of eight members of Connecticut's Congressional delegation asked the General Accounting Office on Thursday to investigate the federal recognition of the historic Eastern Pequot Tribe.
Assistant Secretary Neal McCaleb acknowledged two groups of Eastern Pequot tribal members as one tribe. The lawmakers contend the decision was faulty.
McCaleb issued his final determination in June. The state of Connecticut and three towns located near the Eastern Pequot Reservation are considering an appeal.
