Another Pequot tribe seeks recognition

MONDAY, AUGUST 26, 2002

The Southern Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut is one of several groups claiming descent from the historic Pequot Nation.

The tribe has filed for federal recognition but is low on a very long list. According to the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the tribe is ranked 195 out of 250 that haven't completed their research.
