Indians treated the same 'since the 1800s'
TUESDAY, AUGUST 6, 2002 The state of South Dakota has always ignored Native Americans, according to a plaintiff in a voting rights lawsuit filed on Monday. "They've been treating us like that since the 1800s," Theresa Two Bulls told The Sioux Falls Argus Leader. "Now is the time to change that." Two Bulls, vice president of the Oglala Sioux Tribe, is one of four plaintiffs in the suit, which alleges the state has made changes to more than 600 voting laws without federal approval. The 1965 Voting Rights Act requires Department of Justice review when minority voting rights are involved. Get the Story:
