Indian saint looks non-Indian now
FRIDAY, JULY 26, 2002 Some Mexicans are upset over the Catholic Church's new depiction of the first Indian saint. The church in Mexico City has replaced a picture which showed Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin, an Aztec man who lived during the 1600s, as dark-skinned with one depicting as light-skinned and full bearded. The change was made just before Pope John Paul II makes the official canonization on July 31. Get the Story:
