LA Times focuses on Cobell lawsuit
MONDAY, JULY 8, 2002 Frustrated with answers given by federal officials, Elouise Cobell, former treasurer for the Blackfeet Nation of Montana, filed a class action suit to seek an accounting of the Indian trust fund. That was six years ago. Today, there still is no accounting -- although there is an expensive plan for it -- there have been two contempt trials and there have been numerous proposals -- all failed -- to try and fix the system.
