Indicted ex-worker challenged tribe
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 26, 2002
A federal grand jury this week indicted the Seminole Tribe of Florida's former top administrator, a disgraced cop described by associates and others as belligerent and ruthless.
Timothy Wayne Cox is non-Indian but married to a tribal member. He started working for the tribe by administering drug tests but quickly rose through the ranks by promotion and by force -- he once gave himself a new title when his boss went on vacation.
Cox also challenged Seminole general counsel Jim Shore. Shore, who is blind, was wounded earlier this year in what authorities described as a professional hit.
