Judge refuses to dismiss burial lawsuit
TUESDAY, JUNE 11, 2002 A federal judge on Monday refused a government request to dismiss a lawsuit challenging the excavation of human remains at an Army Corps of Engineers site along the Missouri River. U.S. District Judge Lawrence Piersol continued to hear testimony on the case. The Yankton Sioux Tribe of South Dakota wants a preliminary injunction to halt work at the site and also wants a transfer of shoreline to the state declared illegal. The tribe filed suit after the state transported human remains found at the site. Work has halted and a guard was placed on duty. Get the Story:
