Upset in Osage Nation elections

TUESDAY, JUNE 4, 2002

Voters of Osage Nation of Oklahoma ousted longtime Chief Charles Tillman in a close election on Monday.

Jim Gray, publisher and co-owner of The Native American Times, won the title of chief out of field of four. The vote was 421 to Tillman's 386.

When translated to headright votes, or the original Osage allottees, the margin was a slim 7.

Newcomer Kenneth Bighorse beat actor Larry Sellers for assistant principal chief. The vote was 1105 to 310.
