Statement: Markwayne Mullin to be Secretary of Homeland Security

The following is the two-page statement of Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-Oklahoma) at his nomination hearing to be Secretary of Homeland Security.
Mullin is a citizen of the Cherokee Nation. If confirmed, he would be the first Native person in President Donald Trump’s cabinet and the first Native person to lead the Department of Homeland Security.
The Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs has scheduled a business meeting on March 19 on Mullin’s nomination.
