The U.S. House of Representatives considers H.R.410, the Alaska Native Vietnam Era Veterans Land Allotment Extension Act of 2025, on July 14, 2025.
H.R.410 extends the Alaska Native Vietnam-Era Veterans Land Allotment Program for another five years. The goal is to ensure the Bureau of Land Management can reach out to Alaska Native veterans who are entitled to land selections.
“For decades, thousands of Alaska Native veterans who served in
Vietnam were unfairly denied the ability to apply for land allotments
due to their service overseas,” said Rep. Nick Begich (R-Alaska), the sponsor of H.R.410. “While Congress took steps to correct this injustice, the executive branch, until recently, has been slow processing applications and conveyances, leaving many veterans in
limbo.”
“As of January 2025, out of more than 2,000 eligible veterans, only 41
applications have been certified, and only 18 veterans have received
their conveyances,” Begich added.
Following consideration, the House approved H.R.410 under a suspension of the rules.
The bill would still need to be approved by the U.S. Senate before it can become law.
