Candi Brings Plenty discusses Indigenous womb sovereignty in front of the U.S. Supreme Court on June 24, 2024.
Brings Plenty (they/she) is a Two Spirit Water Protector and Land Defender from the Oglala Sioux Tribe. Their remarks were part of an event hosted by Women’s Strike in Washington, D.C.
“We were birthed from the Earth,” Brings Plenty said. “We have become the protectors of the sacred, the protectors of this land, the protectors of our lives.”
“And that means we get to choose what is best for our lives,” Brings Plenty said in front of the highest court in the United States.
As they did during the land acknowledgment that opened the event, non-Natives tried to disrupt and drown out Bring Plenty’s voice in the nation’s capital.
