OST Council divided over consultant contracts

www.nsweekly.com PINE RIDGE –– The Oglala Sioux Tribe’s Finance Committee met in an emergency session on Thursday, March 10 in the tribal council chambers immediately following the Tribal Council meeting. Finance Committee Chairman Floyd Brings Plenty (Wakpamni District Representative) convened the special session at the urgent behest of OST President John Steele. However, some council representatives grew concerned that Brings Plenty wasn’t following tribal policies concerning meeting notices and decided to leave before the meeting could begin. “A special finance committee meeting cannot be called without a two-day notice to all committee members. This did not happen. The quorum for this committee is nine members. They did not establish a quorum but continued with the meeting and approved a contract for attorney Mario Gonzalez,” Jackie Siers, Wakpamni District Council Representative said.
