Republican presidential candidate
Rick Perry, the current
governor of Texas, has Choctaw ancestry, according to
Archives.com.
Perry's Indian ancestry comes from his mother's side of the family. His great-great-great grandfather Icy Abels was Choctaw, Archives.com said.
Assuming Abels was full-blood, Perry would be 1/32 Choctaw while his mother, Amelia June Holt, would be 1/16 Choctaw.
According to another website,
Republican-candidates.org, Icy Abels was
Mississippi Choctaw.
