WASHINGTON, D.C<\/b>. \u2013\u00a0\u00a0Today, North Carolina Senators Thom Tillis and Ted Budd applauded President Trump\u2019s signing of an\u00a0executive order<\/a>\u00a0directing the U.S. Department of Interior Secretary to pursue all options to finally grant the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina with full federal recognition:<\/p>\n

\u201cI applaud President Donald J. Trump\u2019s executive order\u00a0to prioritize the Lumbee Tribe\u2019s fight for full federal recognition\u00a0and the federal benefits they have long been denied,\u201d\u00a0said Senator Tillis.<\/b>\u00a0<\/b>\u201cIn September 2024, President Trump made a promise to the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina to right the historical wrongs of the Indian Termination Era, and today\u2019s executive order\u00a0is a major step to correcting that wrong. I remain committed to working with President Trump and the North Carolina Congressional Delegation in a bipartisan, bicameral manner to pass the\u00a0Lumbee Fairness Act<\/i>\u00a0to ensure the Lumbee Tribe\u2019s federal recognition is secure and free from legal obstacles.\u201d<\/p>\n
