During an appearance on Fox News<\/a> on September 20, 2024, Tim Sheehy<\/a>, the Republican candidate for U.S. Senate in Montana, sidestepped questions about comments in which he repeatedly linked Native people to alcohol<\/a>.<\/p>

Sheehy did not deny charactering Native people as \"drunk at 8am\" or throwing beer cans at him. Instead, he claimed that audio recordings of him were somehow edited.<\/p>

\u201cAs you know, they\u2019ll take recordings from years ago, chop them up and make them sound, you know, evil,\u201d Sheehy said.<\/p>

Sheehy's full remarks follow:<\/p>

\"Well, as you know, they'll take recordings from years ago, chop them up and make them sound, you know, evil. It'll make me sound, you know, like somebody I'm not.<\/p>

The reality is, you know, I spend more time in our tribal communities than Jon Tester ever has. You know, we rope and brand together on the Crow Reservation. You know, we ranch alongside them.<\/p>

And the reality is what they're trying to do is package a narrative because they're desperate. They're looking at these polls that show them down.\"<\/p><\/blockquote>
