Native Americans for Harris sends Election Day Eve call to action

Native Americans for Harris

Relatives,

Today is ELECTION DAY EVE and before I get into the nuts and bolts of what we can be doing and expecting in the final hours of this election, I want to acknowledge all the work so many of you have been doing in your Tribes, in your Native communities both rural and urban to protect and strengthen the Native vote. It is because of you and your efforts to mobilize our community that we will win this.

Ok, with that and with the limited time we have before polls close across the country, let's make the most out of these final hours:

  • If you haven’t made a plan to vote yet, don’t wait. Go to iwillvote.com to make a plan.

  • If you’ve voted and have some time to spare and want to help the campaign, go to go.kamalaharris.com to sign up for canvassing or phone banking shift. Whether you can offer 20 minutes or a couple hours, every bit of outreach and volunteer effort counts!

And on that note, shout out to all these AMAZING Native surrogates and volunteers who are out there meeting our community members and sharing their stories on why we must vote for Vice President Harris and Governor Walz:

If volunteering isn’t for you but you have time to create or share content, here are some resources to help build a message on why Team Harris-Walz is the ONLY ticket that will honor and strengthen Tribal Sovereignty and defend Tribal Self-Determination.

And ICYMI, below is an updated fact sheet that highlights the Tribal and Native American impacts from the Rural Plan for America. Here are few points that we need to amplify to our community members:

  • Trump would imperil health coverage for millions of Native Americans by stripping the Indian Health Service of the authority to provide health care services in Indian country.

  • Vice President Harris will uphold our nation’s trust and treaty responsibilities to Tribal nations by ensuring the Indian Health Service (IHS) is fully funded.

  • Under Vice President Harris, the Small Business Administration will work directly with Native American Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) to provide fully forgivable loans of up to $20,000 to Native entrepreneurs and others who have historically faced barriers to starting a new business as well as no-interest loans for tribal small business owners seeking to scale their existing businesses. She will increase the small business deduction from $5,000 to $50,000 to support Native American entrepreneurs.

  • Vice President Harris will lower food costs by enacting the first-ever federal ban on corporate price-gouging for food and groceries.

  • Vice President Harris will lower housing costs by providing first-time homebuyers with up to $25,000 of down payment assistance, going after price-fixing by corporate landlords and big firms that buy up homes in bulk, and increasing funding for the Indian Housing Block Grant Program, the Indian Community Development Block Grant Program, and other government housing programs focused on Native Americans.

If you know people who are still on the fence, text, email, call them with this factsheet!

Now, what to expect on E-DAY:

We know that Election Day can be very nerve wracking and at times chaotic, we also know that Donald Trump is probably going to come out early on Election Night and claim victory despite the facts -- just like he did in 2020. It won’t work. Here’s what we’ve prepared to help you navigate tomorrow:

We will protect every vote – in fact, we’ve already won 19 lawsuits.

  • Trump is worried that he is going to lose this election so he’s ramping up baseless claims of election fraud and irregularities. It won’t work.

    • After the polls closed in 2020, Democrats beat Trump’s claims in court more than 60 times.

    • Since voting began this year, we have won 19 lawsuits and we’re not stopping.

  • We have hundreds of lawyers across the battlegrounds working around the clock to protect the vote.

    • We are ready to address anything the Trump campaign throws at us.

    • We're also ready for what we expect to be an active post-election period.

Here’s what we expect on Election Night and the days to follow.

  • If the race is as close as polls indicate, we expect that it could take time before the election is called because of how states tabulate votes and the time it takes to call a very close election.

  • States count, and report, ballots in different orders. The order that a state reports results from different vote methods and geographies can have a big impact on the margin at any given time. That means that if the race is very close, we could expect the lead to change several times as votes are reported.

  • Here’s how we expect it to go:

    • Early in the night: we expect to have most results from GA and NC. If these states are close, however, they may not be called until later.

      • We also expect near-complete results from states like VA, FL, OH, and CO. While these results can be informative, we must be careful to not over-index on the results in any one state - states may not move together this year.

    • By the end of the night: we expect near-complete results from GA and NC, and MI, and partial results from PA, WI and AZ.

    • By Wednesday morning: we expect most results from WI, and additional results from PA and potentially MI.

    • On Wednesday and beyond: we expect additional results from PA, AZ, and NV, as well as a small number of remaining ballots tabulated in states that have mostly reported already.

    • Some ballots will continue to be counted for many days: In several states, voters can cure ballots after Election Day. In NV, ballots can arrive until 11/9. And in PA, the state cannot begin to count provisional ballots until 11/8. The fact that new votes will continue to be reported for many days is expected, and not a sign of fraud.
