The Cherokee Nation is reminding tribal citizens about the importance of voting on the eve of Election Day 2024.
"Tomorrow is Election Day, November 5th, here in Oklahoma, here in the Cherokee Reservation, and all across the United States," Deputy Chief Bryan Warner says in a video shared on the tribe's social media channels. "Let's make sure that your voice is being heard. This is an important duty for each and every one of us."
In another video, award-winning and acclaimed actor Wes Studi says the 2024 election is "probably one of the more important elections of, at least, my lifetime -- because it could really determine the way we begin to live for the next four, perhaps even eight years."
Studi also speaks in the Cherokee language about the importance of voting. The Cherokee Nation provides English subtitles for this portion of the video.
"Okay, let's make sure we Cherokees have voted," Studi says in Cherokee, according to the subtitles.
The Cherokee Nation is the largest federally-recognized tribe in Oklahoma and one of the two largest federally-recognized tribes in the United States, in terms of enrollment. The Navajo Nation is the other largest tribe.
A very special message about the importance of voting from a veteran, actor, director, and fluent Cherokee Speaker, Wes Studi. 🤍 pic.twitter.com/PhWT5yZZFl
